Seating Expert: Functional Parts (armrest/headrest)

Job Overview:

We are seeking a highly experienced and knowledgeable Seating Expert to join our Client’s dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the conceptualisation, design, and development of armrests and headrests in seating products. This role requires a deep understanding of industry standards, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to guide and support the design team.

Responsibilities:

Discuss the armrest/headrest scheme concept, determine the scheme, and ensure alignment with industry standards and customer requirements.
Inspect and review the specific structural design of armrests and headrests, ensuring compliance with safety, functionality, and aesthetic criteria.
Review armrest/headrest drawings, checklists, and related issuance documents for accuracy and completeness.
Provide solution support for design problems during the design and development process, offering expertise to enhance product quality.
Establish and improve the knowledge base of armrests and headrests, transferring knowledge effectively to relevant personnel within the organization.
Stay informed about industry trends and contribute suggestions to the company’s armrest development plan to ensure alignment with market demands.
Conduct a comprehensive review of existing products, identify issues, and propose changes for continuous improvement.

Education/Work Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree or above in mechanics, mechanical engineering, or materials science and engineering.
Minimum of 8 years of experience in seat design and development, with at least 6 years specialising in armrest design and development within a Tier 1 Supplier.

Necessary Skills and Competencies:

In-depth knowledge of handrail product structures and requirements from mainstream OEMs and professional armrest/headrest suppliers.
Mastery of design specifications for armrests/headrests, capable of providing professional guidance and reviewing product designs.
Familiarity with mold structures and processes of foam, plastic parts, and metal parts in armrest/headrest products to ensure feasible designs.
Proficient in identifying common problems in armrest/headrest products and providing proactive suggestions during the design phase.
Ability to organise and summarize past knowledge, creating comprehensive and accessible documentation.
Strong knowledge of 2D drawings, with the ability to guide and review engineering drawings effectively.
Able to effectively communicate with engineers, suppliers, and manufacturers about drawings.
